Sew Ready for Summer: Taylor Shorts by Greenstyle Creations, Sommer Dress by Made for Mermaids and Sandy's Beach Bag by Handmaidens Cottage
/ Katie HancockHere at Pattern Revolution, we are always anticipating the change in seasons by thinking about what we are going to sew. Since summer is upon us, we decided to share our summer sewing projects in this weeks featured series Sew Ready for Summer. We will be featuring our summer sews all week long and we hope you will join along for some summer sewing inspiration! Today we have Heather and Rebecca's summer sewing projects.
Taylor Shorts by Greenstyle Creations:
Hello! Heather from All Things Katy!, here!
School is out, the temperatures are rising, Caribbean vacation is on the horizon and I’m “Sew Ready for Summer” with my newly sewn Greenstyle Taylor Shorts! The Greenstyle Taylor Shorts feature flat or pleated front, three inseam options (2”, 5”, 8”) and a fully functional fly.
I sewed up a size six, flat front, 2” inseam Greenstyle Taylor Shorts. Since I am only 5’-0” tall (and most of my shortness is in my legs) a 2” inseam is just right for me (short enough to be shorts, yet not short enough to be considered poor taste ;-). I did make some adjustments to accommodate my particular body shape and size. I used non-stretch twill fabric and a metal separating zipper.
I’ve got to admit that the pattern intimidated me, at first. That functional fly! Plus, because the pattern is written for NON-Stretch fabrics, there’s no room for “wiggle” (literally!). However, the tutorial holds your hand and walks you through all the steps with step-by-step photographs and tips along the way. In the end, you end up with a pretty “professional” looking garment (if I do say so myself!)! I love that they are classic and tailored in styling, yet comfy and easy to wear!
I'm “Sew Ready for Summer” in my Greenstyle Taylor Shorts!
Sommer Dress by Made for Mermaids:
We are always so ready for summer at our house because it means we can turn off our alarms, run around barefoot, play outside and have what seems like endless playtime. As soon as I saw the Sommer dress from Made for Mermaids I knew it would be a staple in our summer wardrobe.
The spaghetti straps and gathered skirt is my favorite style for my daughters. I love the criss-cross back option, every time we wear it we get compliments. There is also a single strap option that is equally adorable.
Sandy's Beach bag by Handmaidens Cottage:
Another thing we love about summer is school is out, which means all of my kids are with me! It also means my hands stay full. Sandy’s Beach Bag from Handmaiden’s Cottage Patterns is perfect for our summer adventures. It holds all of our snacks, beach towels, sunglasses. Anything we might need as we are adventuring this summer will go right in our bag. This bag has us ready to be on-the-go with everything we need close at hand!
We hope you are inspired to get Sew Ready for Summer too! Join us all week for more summer sewing inspiration!
