Hi, Rebecca here. Glad to be back with a new pattern review. I've been sewing regularly for a few years now but still fairly new using knits. So I was excited to check out Seamingly Smitten's pattern.
First, some quick details:
- XS-XXL (0-22)
- Nested color pattern pieces, computer drafted
- Different rise front and back
- For use with knit/activewear fabrics, fabric suggestions included
- 3 length options- modesty shorts, capris, pants
- Size and fabric charts included
- Stretch fabric sewing tips
- Ruffle bottom option
This is a beginner level pattern, even if you're new to working with knits you can do this. Follow the helpful tips in the pattern and dive in. Depending on the adjustments that need to be made it's a fairly quick sew. Have an hour of free time? You can whip these up for sure.
I would recommend making a quick muslin shorts length to check sizing before cutting into your chosen fabric. Even using a woven fabric (I always have cheap/ugly fabric on hand for this) will give you a good idea of the fit on your waist, thighs and bum. Also note, the legs have a wider finish than I had expected based on pictures. Depending on your body shape you may have to take in quite a bit on the lower leg, so allow time for making those alterations. There are directions on how to do this in the pattern.
I personally love wearing leggings with fun prints or bright colors to the gym. If you have an errand to run before or after, throwing on a sweater and boots (weather permitting) with your leggings makes them versatile.
