Norma Jean Shorties by Sew by Pattern Pieces

The Norma Jean shorties by Sew By Pattern Pieces are the best fitting undies that I’ve found. I think that is mainly because of the sizes offered. Instead of seven sizes (XS to XXXL,) they have eleven sizes so you can get a more precise fit. Instructions are also included for three different ways to sew the bands depending on how you want to finish them. This pattern also features a gusset with enclosed seams so no serging one end then holding it in place with pins or clips until the leg bands are on.

The instructions state that the pattern was tested using 92% cotton 8% spandex fabric. You can use fabric with a lower spandex percentage as long as it has at least 50% stretch. I used a 95/5 cotton spandex for mine. Instructions also stated to size down the body of the pattern if using fabric with less than 8% spandex. When I cut the paper pattern pieces out, that looked like it would be too small so I went with the size I measured for instead of sizing down as suggested. They fit perfectly just using the size I measured for.

The band options include clear elastic or knit elastic inserted into narrow fabric bands, using fold over elastic or wide fabric bands with no encased elastic. There are also two rise options, regular and low rise. I made low rise with wide fabric/no elastic bands. Between the more detailed size range and the gusset with no exposed ends, this has become my new favorite undie pattern.
