The Lucy Dress by Handmaidens Cottage

Hi! I'm Katy from My China Doll and I am reviewing a pattern by Handmaidens Cottage called the Lucy Dress. I was generously gifted this sweet floral fabric from wildflower fabric store (https://wildflowerfabricstore.com.au/) which suited the pattern beautifully. It is a sweet vintage style dress, sized from sizes 2 to 10, with lots of cute options.

Here in Australia, we are right in the middle of the cold winter months, so I chose the cuffed long sleeve option of the Lucy Dress.  The cuffs were easy to add and the finish on them is lovely. The bodice has options for either plain or pintucks – I chose pintucks because they look so sweet and really add to the vintage look. You have the option to add different shaped collars too and because I am a fan of traditional peter pan collars, that is what I chose.

I love the drop-waisted skirt and I did the gathered version but there are also instructions for adding a pleated  skirt instead. There is a lot of ease through the bodice so my daughter said it was very comfortable to wear. The bodice is unlined with facing at the neckline and the button placket is very easy to contruct. I used snaps to enclose the bodice because it is super quick lol.

I have enjoyed sewing this pattern and others I have made by Handmaiden's Cottage and would highly recommend them. Instructions are clear and easy to understand. Can't wait to sew up a spring version with the scalloped cap sleeves when our weather warms up again.

Happy sewing xx k
