Here is Alexis to share all about her Piper....

---------------------------------------

Hi there, I am Alexis from My Sweet Sunshine. I am excited to be here on Pattern Revolution to review The Woman's Piper by Violette Field Threads. When I was given the chance to review this pattern, I jumped on it. Literally... jumping up and down with excitement. I mean, hello, look at that back! Since I am usually so busy sewing children's clothes, I thought it would be nice to sew something for myself. The day I received the pattern I also received a lovely package of fabric from the Arizona Collection by Art Gallery, so I would call it fate and they needed to come together.

Eek-- I had no idea that I had that many freckles on my back! More sunscreen for me because I am wearing this shirt all summer!!

The Piper can be made with Silk, Lace or Chiffon for a fancy version or Cotton for an everyday version. It can also be made in Knit! I say play around with your fabric and mix it up, ladies! For this review I made an size XS Cotton Top Version with a Lace Peter Pan Collar and the back bow also in Lace.

Ok, so here is the nitty gritty...

Pattern Options:

  • Top or Dress Length
  • Boatneck With or without Peter Pan Collar
  • Sleeve Length- Short or 3/4 Length
  • Darts on the bust for tailored look
  • Size XXS-XXL

The Top took me about 4-5 hrs from start to finish (I may or may not have stopped to eat a cupcake or two--don't judge, it was a long day) . Anyways, the pictures and the written instructions were very clear and precise, making it great for beginners while also fun for the more advanced seamstress too. I am a visual person and I love it when patterns have good pictures; this pattern delivers on that! The pattern pieces came together without any issues. Thanks to my ink sucking printer I ran out of colored ink and had to print in black and white and still had no problems following the lines.

(Just love this fabric-Metallic Triangles and that Beautiful Bow!!)

(Make sure to use 1/4" Double Fold Bias Tape around neck)

My recommendation with this pattern is to take it slow and read through the directions first. You want your Piper to turn out beautiful, right??!! Take your time when sewing the collar pieces so they don't turn out wonky. Also very important to note is when you sew your ruffle on the back, make sure they line up at the end. Yes, ladies even if that means pinning and repining. I loved the darts on the front bodice, but must admit I was a bit afraid as this was the first time sewing them. Luckily, the instructions are so well written that all my worries quickly vanished and I ended up with a tailor made look.

I love that I can wear this to pick up my kids or to dinner with my hubby :)

Thank you Violette Field Threads and Pattern Revolution with the opportunity to make The Piper. Next on my list from VFT is the girls version of Piper so my daughter and I can match!
