Today we share an adorable review that is just perfect for Fall and for School.  I'm a huge fan of the warm and toasty dress designs from My Childhood Treasures, and the new Amy Dress does not disappoint.

Here are Kara and Carrie to show off their creations and give you a full rundown of the pattern....

Amy Dress Review

My Childhood Treasures

My daughter wore her Amy Dress to church tonight and she got so many compliments.  The Amy Dress is a cute and comfy dress that is a great wardrobe addition.  I love it when a pattern goes together quickly and easily.  I spent about an hour sewing the Amy Dress, it's so simple.

I love the casual but versatile look of the dress.  My daughter wore the dress to school but it can also be worn to church, play and out to dinner.

Here are some features of the pattern:

  • Sizes 2-10
  • 4 Dress options
  • Size chart
  • Stretch guide
  • Fabric requirements chart
  • Pattern assembly instructions
  • Taping grid
  • Instructions for lengthening and shortening the dress
  • Cutting guide
  • Sewing with stretch fabric notes
  • Computer drafted pattern pieces
  • Detailed directions
  • 2 Collar options

There are several options for the Amy Dress pattern.  I chose to make the long sleeve dress with the stand up collar.  Be sure to consult the sizing chart to determine the correct size.  My daughter is so short and petite, I should learn my lesson about using the sizing chart and follow that instead of using RTW sizes.  She is 5 and I should have made her the size 2, especially since the dress is knit.  I think the dress runs pretty true to size, so I would not size down but follow the sizing chart.

I would probably consider this pattern an advanced beginner to intermediate pattern.  There is some easing in of the curves on the front and back pieces that could cause a bit of extra attention.  Other than the easing in, the pattern is very straight forward and simple.  I constructed the entire dress using my serger and used my coverstitch machine to finish the hems.

I'm so glad I made the Amy Dress and I will absolutely make it again soon.  This dress was so quick, it can easily be a nap time project.  I'm also considering making the dress as a tunic next time.

Hi everyone! Carrie fom Beri Bee Designs back to share with you an awesome little dress that I think you will just love as a staple in your girls closets – The Amy Dress from My Childhood Treasures. I have an almost 7-year-old going on about 16. Can anyone relate?? Do any of these expressions look familiar? This is the look I get lately when I try to pick out clothes or patterns without her ‘approval’.

BUT, she loved this dress... she even asked for a few more! Wahooo!! This dress is designed for most interlock and jersey fabrics. There are 4 different design options to mix and match the sleeve length and collar style and is available in sizes 2-10. I chose the short sleeve with a regular collar. I thought short sleeves would be great to get us through the warm Indiana fall and then will look perfect layered into the colder months. This has a nice loose sleeve, which makes it ideal for layering.

The pattern pieces also include a cutting guide so that you can also customize the size, for example a size 4 width but with a longer length. I love finding patterns like that since my daughter is tall and pretty slim. I thought the directions were clear and very easy to follow. Making this a super quick sew. I had everything cut and finished in just over an hour. Another reason we will have a few of these in different fabrics, I love easy!

This would be a great introductory pattern for someone starting with knits. There was a very helpful guide at the beginning that explained different types of knit and what amount of stretch (with a guide) you should look for when selecting fabrics. Thank you for letting us share! I hope you enjoy it as much as we are! I’ll leave you with this... Even though sometimes she’s 6 going on 16, just as often she’s still back to my sweet kid... Me: “yes dear, that is a really cool noise the bridge makes when you stomp across” hahaha!!
