Holly Dress by Made for Mermaids

ey all! Cassie here, from good ol Lily Shine, to share our joyous trip to the Christmas Tree farm and the most darling dresses!

What a sweet style! The Holly dress and top by Made for Mermaids is all things festive and fun, great for year round wear with all the sleeve options included and is great for showing off some lovely quilting cottons. Let’s take a closer look at the pattern and I’ll share some of my favorite features.

The Holly dress and top, in sizes ½ to girls 14, has a stylish square neckline with either flutter sleeves, short, ¾ or long sleeves. I love when woven patterns include sleeve options because it seems like most woven dress patterns are made for straps or sleeveless. I chose the ¾ sleeve (and am I glad I did) since it is quite mild in the winter here in sunny California. The pattern includes a simple skirt option or the double ruffle. Since I knew the girls would be wearing this dress for a special occasion, I didn’t hold back on the details and went for the double ruffle. The pattern gave tips for using a rolled hem or a ruffling foot to speed up the process- but by the 3rd and 4th ruffle I was ready for a ruffling elf to come visit. Totally worth every stitch though!

And, just like a pretty present, the Holly dress can be trimmed with a big bow! Per pattern guidance, I made my bow removable so it won’t get crumpled in the wash and can be worn on the front or back or left off. A great confident beginner pattern, the Holly dress has plenty of options to keep you coming back for more! Great designer tips to help along the way, clear photos to detail tricky construction methods (skirt placket and square bodice) and layer printing option will help you sew up a gorgeous dress with ease.
