Happy Apple Bikini and Coverup by Puperita

As we close up Swim Week, we take a look at the Happy Apple Bikini and Coverup by Puperita Patterns.  This is a cotton suit available in sizes 3t-10.

Hi there! I’m Kari, from That’s-Sew-Kari back again with another swimsuit for my little water baby.  Although, she’s no longer a baby, huh…. {sigh}  I have been eyeing the Happy Apples Swimsuit by Puperita for the longest time!  The pattern comes with an adorable triangle bikini top and swim bottom for sizes 3-10 and also includes a strappy coverup dress as well (*due to vacation plans and time, I requested the bikini only).  Adorable, right?!

The pattern is very easy to use and understand.  It comes together quickly, but I do recommend a minor addition.  If you notice the picture above, the inside of my legs and waist are unfinished - per the pattern.  Recommendation: Finish your edges with your preferred method prior to sewing the elastic on.

The elastic is zigzagged on which makes installation super fast, unless you don’t get it tight enough and have to unpick it all (whoops!).

I also moved the triangle bits a tad closer together than the pattern called for.  My daughter has an extremely narrow chest and wasn’t exactly in the size range for the top.

As you can see, the back of the triangle top ties both around the chest and the neck.  I tied the chest first (while my daughter helped hold it in place) and the tied the neck.  I sewed mine with store-bought bias tape (as per the pattern) and feel you can get a pretty tight bow with it.  I do not recommend any sort of grosgrain ribbon to tie as you will be constantly retying (been there, done that on a tied wrap dress).

These bottoms fit much better than the last suit I sewed.  Keep in mind, you won’t get a snug fit with a woven swimsuit, but it shouldn’t be overly baggy either.

Overall, it’s a super cute suit and my daughter loves it!  I will definitely use Puperita patterns again (eyeing  this CUTE dress right now!) ...  Now, where’s the beach?!

The pattern also includes the cute Happy Apple Coverup.  I sewed up the coverup and paired them with the Happy Apple Bikini bottoms for a great play wear outfit.  This coverup is so easy to pull on and off and is great if you need to run around town before or after swimming because it is simply adorable!
