The Brynn Top and Spring Break Shorts by Modkid

Hi there!  It’s Kari from That’s-Sew-Kari sharing my version of Modkid’s latest releases!  The Brynn Top and Spring Break Shorts pair together to make a cool, comfortable outfit for girls and teens alike.  The top features a back cutout with a tie at the back of the neck along with a front yoke and optional ruffles.  The shorts have 3 different options: plain hem, angled ruffle hem and a small tulip ruffle hem. The size range is 2 - 8/9 for Girls and 10-18 for Teens.

I chose to sew a casual, nautical inspired outfit for my 9 year old.  I sewed up View A on the shorts to showcase the stripes that, of course, had to line up!  I love the included hip measurement on the size chart.  I sewed these up in a 5 (her hip size) and they even have a bit of growing room.  They are not meant to be fitted and can even be made in knit! Of course, I had to include the side seam pockets (stripes match there too, because I’m crazy...LOL)

On the top, I chose to leave off the ruffles.  The fabric I chose was a very lightweight, but multi-striped white fabric.  I really wasn’t sure it was the best fabric to try to gather for a ruffle and eyelet wasn’t a match in regards to style.  The top came together really easily (not as quick as the shorts), but considering the number of pieces, it went fast. Of course, I like a good stripe challenge and matched all those too!  I also made the 5 here (her chest measurement).

I will definitely make another set or two for summer.  My 7 year old was so disappointed this wasn’t for her. (Don’t worry, she wears the same size and they will share… fingers crossed)
