The Elevation Hoodie by New Horizons Designs

Hi guys, Maryanna here. Let me start out by saying that I LOVE the finished product for the Women’s Elevation Hoodie. When I put it on the reaction from my husband was “Wow! I like that. It looks really neat.” That is the first time he has been that complimentary about an article of clothing that I’ve sewn for myself. I used heathered french terry from Joann’s. I did the hooded version with thumbhole cuffs. I lined my hood with the same french terry. It does take a little longer to construct than a normal hoodie because of the color blocking but I love the way it turned out.

When I looked at the cover photo, I thought that the pockets had zippers so I purchased a couple of 9” zippers that coordinated with my fabrics. When I got to the pockets in the construction I couldn’t find the zipper installation part. That’s when I realized that it doesn’t call for zippers and that it was just the pocket fabric that is visible. I didn’t have any solid cotton lycra that would coordinate but  I have installed zippers in many bags before so I just pulled out my wonder tape, placed the zippers  and topstitched them in place. I like having the zippers because that way I can put my phone in there and not have to worry about it falling out when we go hiking. My only complaint about the pocket is that I didn’t see anywhere in the instructions that called for securing it to the front along the top and bottom so I have to hold it out of the way when putting it on.

We are currently living in Colorado and took the camera out and went in search of a new hiking trail to use for the photos. The temperature was 44 degrees and I had this New Horizons pattern layered over a short sleeve t-shirt and it was great for a hike in the mountains. I’m pretty sure my husband wants me to make him one now.

Rebecca's Version:

My sewing room is often filled with sister sets or mommy and me dresses or tunics. When I saw the elevation hoodie I loved the shape of it on the woman in the pattern listing. Then, I discovered there is a child's version too and I knew immediately that I wanted to make a mommy and me hoodie set! My son just beamed as we prepared for our pictures, he loved matching mommy. The other great thing about this design is it is a great way to use character fabrics for adults. I love the way my hoodie looks with just a bit of character fabric in the middle. I see many more character hoodies in our future.
