Mara Skirt and Perfect Tee by Modkid

Hey y’all, it’s Jackie.  While everyone else is scrambling to sew gifts this time of year, I took November off to work on fun projects.  No sewing to do list for me.  One of the fun sewing projects I took on was the new Mara Skirt and Perfect Tee from Modkid.  It’s such a great pairing to make a fantastic outfit.

Modkid uses Euro sizing, so all sizing is based on height.  I’m growing to really appreciate euro sizing because I can always achieve a fit that is long enough for my tall, slender kiddo.  The patterns also include finished chest, waist, and hip measurements to aid in choosing the best size.  I made a 10/12 hybrid for Miss 9 because she is 58’ tall.

I started by picking the fabric for the Mara skirt.  The pattern told me that it wanted to be made in corduroy.  I shopped my stash and a polka dot corduroy I have been hoarding for at least 5 years that called to me.  Do patterns and fabric speak to you?  I had kept the fabric so long because it really needed a perfect pattern to prevent the dots from looking too juvenile.  The Mara skirt was just the pattern it needed.  The pattern has multiple pieces, but it’s not complex.  It sewed up far faster than I had anticipated.  Perhaps the most time consuming part was installing the snaps, but it sure was fun to get out my hammer and install them!

The Perfect Tee delivers on its name.  I went through every solid knit in my stash to find a color that worked with any of the dots, and ultimately chose a hot pink double brushed polyester.  It’s a little clingier than the pattern intends, but the fit is good.  It’s a great basics staple pattern to have in your sewing back pocket.  It has short sleeve and long sleeve options, but the pattern doesn’t stop there.  It also has traditional length and cropped length bodice options!  We chose long sleeve traditional length because it’s getting cooler here.

What’s really cool about these two patterns is how versatile they are.  If you’re in the cooler climates, the Mara skirt is great in corduroy and paired with a long Perfect Tee, tights, and boots.  If you’re in warmer climates, it would be awesome in upcycled denim paired with a cropped Perfect Tee and sandals.  There’s so many opportunities to put your own spin on these patterns, making them perfect for that Mod Kid in your life.

Happy sewing!
