Mouse House Creations Julia Cardigan

Review by Kara Orr

Don't tell me you haven't hear of the fabulous Hayley from Mouse House Creations....
She is full of creativity and has a wonderful blog.  Her Caroline Party Dress is so hot right now and everyone is anxiously waiting for the ladies version.

The weather has been so cold at my house, so I couldn't wait to sew this cardigan!  I love wearing it around the house or out running errands, it really is a go to cardi.

Features of the pattern include:
  • how to sew with knits
  • measurements and yardage requirements
  • glossary of terms
  • printing/taping guide
  • sizes XS (0-2) to XXXL (24-26)
  • pattern pieces
  • detailed instructions

There are several options for the Julia Cardigan.  You can make an Extended Cap Sleeve, Long Sleeve, or 3/4 Sleeve.

Fabric requirements are:  jersey knit, lycra, interlock, stretch lace and 4 way stretch.  I used sweatshirt fleece because I wanted a really cozy cardigan.  I love it!

I made a size small but probably could have made a size smaller.  It is typical to size down when using knit fabrics.  I also wanted it to have enough room to wear over thicker shirts because I knew it would be a winter cardigan.

I cannot wait to make more of this adorable cardigan.  I would really like to make all of the sleeve version for the spring and summer.  I may even make one in every color....

Hello! Stephanie from Sew Van-Tastic here. I recently took the pledge to attempt to do more self-care sewing for myself. I just got the opportunity to sew up the Julia Cardigan from Mouse House Creations and I was really impressed!

At first, I was a little concerned about making this look presentable because I've never actually worked with knits before! I was pleasantly surprised how EASY this way to sew up. It was MUCH faster than most projects I've done, and the instructions were really clear for a knit newb like me!

I was really impressed with all the options this pattern offers. You're able to choose from short, 3/4 length, and long sleeves. There are even options for choosing different types of finishing methods for the hem. I opted for the doubled over method, as it actually required no hemming. Overall, I think I whipped this up in under two hours!

The end result was a really cute sweater that is really versatile. You could put this over a little dress and wear it to the office, of if you're a mom like me, you can put it over a tank top with jeans and wear it to a playdate at the park!

If you're a knit virgin like I was, I would definitely recommend the Julia Cardigan for your first knit project. Besides, surely you deserve to make yourself something pretty, don't you?
