Hey there, readers, Chris here, with a review of Ava’s Pleated Top & Dress from Simple Life Pattern Company.
Ava is a woven top and dress pattern with multiple options. The sweetheart bodice can be cut simple as I did in this version, or it can be pieced to showcase a panel, monogram or contrasting fabric. There are four sleeve options (cap, short, 3/4 or long), and a pleated or gathered skirt in top or dress length. I love the sweet puff of the cap sleeves on young girls!
The directions for this pattern are very thorough, and the dress sews together perfectly. Pleats seem tricky, as the skirt pieces must be cut and pressed precisely, but the dimensions in the cut chart and pleating instructions provided an exact match for the width of the bodice, which made it easy! And speaking of easy, I love the button loop closure - no finicky button holes! Ava will definitely be repeated in my sewing rotation for my girl!
