The Steffi by ModKid:

Hey Everyone!  Rebekah here again.  I don’t know about you, but I love patterns that transition through the seasons.  Here we are in March and I am just soooo looking forward to the spring. I am so done with the snow and cold! You would think that living in New England I would be used to it right?  Nope!! So as I sit here dreaming of spring, I thought it appropriate to start preparing for warmer temps and make something that will help my little Miss Ruth transition when the weather actually decides to transition too.

When I saw the look of this pattern I just knew it would be a fun one.  This is the Modkid Steffi pattern!  This honestly is a perfect all around anytime pattern for girls.  Coming in sizes 2T-12 it has an option for your girl whether she is a twirling girlie girl or a sporty tomboy.  The pattern features many options to make the perfect bottom otherwise known as the skegging. That is a skirt and legging combined (I confess it took me a little bit to figure that one out.  We will blame mama brain on that one!) There are three lengths to the leggings: long, capri, and shorts. Then on top of that you can add a circle skirt, double cinched skirt, or cropped cross-over skirt.  I haven’t done it myself yet but it totally looks to me like the leggings and skirts can be made separately to add even more diversity to your girls closet!

I totally fell in love with the look of the crossover skirt so of course that is what I made.  For the legging part I chose the capri length. It’s the perfect length for the transitioning seasons, not that you would have known the seasons where transitioning by the photos.  Yes 14.5 inches of snow the day I sewed these with more to come!!! Anyways I digress. I made a straight size 3t for my skinny minnie. Technically she measured into 2T for width but I just wanted to sew a straight size, hence the leggings being slightly baggy.  Always some reminder of my laziness right? Despite that, I love them! I did change the waistband to a yoga style as I dislike dealing with elastic. I just took 2” off and viola, it was a perfect yoga waistband!

Little secret...shhh...this was my first Modkid pattern!!  Not my last though. The tutorial was very well done with clear instructions and helpful tips along the way.  I really can’t say enough about this pattern as I really enjoyed it. Now time to plan out some more and try all the options!!  Cinched skirt one is next!!
